A Really Random Post With A Point

Aight, so Tuesday turned into a hectic mess. The day gig was bananas (No Alpha). My mind was focused on the interview that I’m not gonna talk about and the announcement of the Black Weblog Awards’ finalists. I also found out that I have like $600 left in my flex spending health account that I need to use by May 31st. With the way things are lookin’ right now, I’ll be buying a bunch of condoms and ace bandages. Who gonna check me boo? **shrugs**

The Good News

Single Black Male made it to the finals of the Black Weblog Awards in 4 categories: Best Blog Design, Best Blog Post Series, Best Sex & Relationship Blog, and Blog of the Year. I really wanted us to make it to the finals in the Best Group Blog category, but they snatched that off the ballot. I was and still am kinda salty, but not enough to take away from the excitement of what’s been accomplished this year so far.

Last year, Single Black Male got snubbed in all categories in the first round of the BWAs. It was the pits. Once the sting wore off, we made it a point to not repeat the flop. Pause.

At the beginning of 2011, I was a little concerned. Traffic on the site was cool, but I just felt like a lot of work needed to be done and that we weren’t positioned to make a serious run at an award. I voiced my thoughts until everybody else on the staff was basically like “Aight Slim. Shut the f*ck up already. Run the show you light-skinned bastard.” In celebration of my new role, I did a backflip into a king-sized bed where a beautiful woman awaited me with open arms and…

Anyways, a few months later and we’re in the finals in 4 categories. It’s taken a lot of hours, energy, money, headaches, emails, and calls to India to get sh*t straightened out. And honestly, I’m really proud of what the site has become and I hope those of you that have watched the transformation feel the same. With that said, I need y’all to do me a favor and vote. I don’t ask for much but if you’d like to see me succeed, taking a couple minutes to go through the form and nominate SBM will help me to achieve a milestone I’ve been thinkin’ about for some time.
