Hey Folks,
I wasn’t gonna write a post today because I’m exhausted, but I wanted to get Saturday’s rant off the main page as the featured post and put up something less aggressive. On Saturday night, I attended a speed/flow dating event in NYC that pretty much required me to chatterbox for over 3 hours. Then on Sunday I did a bunch of SBM stuff and live-tweeted a panel discussion on body image, health issues, and the superficial side of dating. I’ve got a good amount of thoughts on each event that I’ll run on here or Single Black Male when I have the energy to empty my mind into WordPress. I do have a few things for today I wanted to mention briefly:
Fundraising
The response has been greater than anything I could’ve imagined and I am beyond thankful for the support. I’ll still be sending out individual thank you messages, videos, etc. but wanted to say something today since I surpassed a milestone that almost made my left eye get glassy. Additionally, I had intended to close the campaign on Monday but a few people asked that I hold off until the end of the week when they have disposable dollars.
The fact that folks would reach out and ask me to hold off on closing the campaign because they still intend to support is humbling to say the least. I have a ton of thoughts on this whole fundraising experience that I plan to talk about once the campaign is officially over. I did want to point out an interesting fact. Of the donations received (as of today) from people I don’t know personally (roughly 80% of donations), only 1 has been from a dude. That says a lot to me — all of which isn’t necessarily good. More on that next week though.
Health and Fitness
I’ve been beasting at the gym to get my myself extra facebook-picturable. Operation Body the Body Fat is underway and the progress has been decent. I really wish I had taken that Personal Trainer exam when I had the chance. More on the health and fitness in a future post.
Blog Talk Radio Appearance
On Wednesday night at 830pm ET, I’ll be on the Menage a Talk radio show hosted by Goddess Intellect, a fellow Black Weblog Awards finalist, with a couple other guests discussing friends, lovers, and the grey area in between. I’ve known Goddess Intellect for most of the time I’ve been blogging and I’m really happy to be participating on her show. She’s also Canadian. I like Canadian women. They’ve always been nice to me. Them and chicks from the midwest — Chicago in particular. Anyways, check the show!
The Rest of This Week
I’m hoping to crank out 2 posts and the Eff Em Friday traditional. Stay tuned.
That’s about it for now. Happy Tuesday…ehh, that sh*t don’t even sound right.
Feeling optimistic despite that last comment about Tuesday,
-Slim
P.S. If you haven’t seen this video/song below about Whole Foods, please check it out. I been laughing for about 24 hours and change about this. Shout out to LaToya for putting me on!
First off, congrats on the many things you are accomplishing. Please keep writing about them, because they will give me some motivation. I was half asleep reading this, but I puckered up a little when I saw how much you had raised from the last time I was on the site, and for some reason, it made me want to donate more. So, if you keep it open til the end of the week, I definitely will! Now, while that opened the slits of my eyes a little, that “Whole Foods Parking Lot” just gave me LIFE! I laughed so hard. “Some girl in yoga pants is looking at me funny. I’m just trying to find a decent Pinot Noir for under 20!” That line made me fall off of my bed and scare my dog! Great way to end this post!
Have a great Tuesday!
Canadian women are the bomb diggity. Congrats, dude. lol @ the video.
I do believe this song will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Thanks Slim, just thanks.
I'm one Canadian chick that thinks you're awesome
