You Been Looking for More? I’ma Give It to You. Pause.

In addition to reading 7 Habits, I’ve been spending a hefty chunk of time reading “How to Make Your Writing Really Bawse” sites. And as I’ve perused these resources and pondered the goodness within, I’ve found 1 consistent message that’s leading me to do something I said I’d never do on TRSJ:

Establish a posting schedule so that your readers don’t get bummed when they don’t see anything new. How many times a week do you want them to type in your url and find old milk?

The purpose of TRSJ is for me to have a place to write that’s free of traffic pressures and mainstream blog expectations. When I started this site, I was excited to not have any rules around when and what I posted. The idea has pretty much been “If I feel like writing, I will. If I don’t, I won’t.” But as I’ve been thinking about where I wanna go with this writing stuff, I realized I need to start writing and posting more often. I’m also slowly accepting that I can’t control what people do or don’t read. All I can control is what I type into WordPress. If I’m happy with what I produce, then the rest really doesn’t matter…or shouldn’t matter. I’ve had that mindset here for some time, but now I’m starting to implement it elsewhere. I know I’m going on a tangent right now, so let me refocus.

Starting next week, I’ll be shifting to a Tuesday, Thursday, Friday schedule. That’s 2 posts and Eff Em Friday. If that doesn’t work, I’ll give Monday, Wednesday, Friday a try. If that doesn’t work, then…well, I don’t know what I’ll do. Maybe publicly flog myself? Pause.

    Happy writing!

    LMAO @ public self-flogging

Good luck with the new posting schedule. I personally am not really bothered by erratic posters just because i follow way too many blogs so i always have something to read lol. I used to blog every single day. Now i can barely get up the strength to even look at my blog. *lowkey advice- don’t burn yourself out.*

I got burnt out this past summer. Not an option again. If I need any breaks, I’ll just announce and take ‘em. I know that blogging everyday would eat me alive, but I do plan on trying to write at least 30 minutes a day.

Scheduling is a very good idea. I’m not a writer so I’m pretty clueless to the process. However I do tune into SBM, Max, Chunk and such. And I’ll admit its cool to see a daily (if possible) post, even if its short -pause..

Self-flogging just wouldn’t do. I’ll be more than happy to volunteer my services, and put some extra oomph into it. Pause if need be. I’m always tryna look out for my brothas and all that good ish.

Most of your readers are probably subscribed to the blog and only check in when there are new comments or posts, but posting with regularity will help you. Also, it would probably be a good idea to list things you may personally want to improve upon as far as style, etc., is concerned, and develop them. Writing often is good for the practice, but it’ll only go so far if there’s no other idea driving it. If you’re fine with everything, though, then you’re set.
