Free Write Friday: The Week That Got Away

This week was the one that got away. Looks like I’ll be doing some catching up this weekend. I’ve got a nice laundry list that could use some strike-throughs. What in particular made this week challenging? Well, I had a work event and another event I had to attend after hours on Tuesday and Thursday, which bodied my evenings. I also had three writing deadlines. Throw in a little bit of fatigue and I’m looking back saying “what the hell happened to this week?!”

It was also challenging on the dietary and fitness front. I was only able to make it to the gym once and I’ve been in some questionable food situations. It’s tough to resist when you haven’t eaten and someone’s offering you free pizza and brownies. And it’s kinda awkward to leave an event to spend money to eat somewhere else, then come back to free food. Fortunately, I’m eating well enough on average that these off-meals aren’t putting a dent in my weight lost progress.

Despite my sore calves from back to back nights of charlie horses, I’m gonna make it to the gym today and get a good workout in. I’m already getting antsy about not visiting New York Sports Club or the track in three days. It feels like I just put myself two steps further away from the sand. And it’s that feeling that reminds me how serious I am about making my return a reality.

Anyway, in case you missed them, here are the three articles I had run this week:

  1. A Man’s Perspective on the Challenges of Weight Loss (UPTOWN)
  2. Why Your Values Are Just As Important As Your Skills (EBONY)
  3. Aggressive Networking & Self Promotion: Good Hustle or Bad Practice (SBM)

I also wanna say thanks to the readers who’ve reached out to me with words of encouragement recently. It’s always a pleasant surprise to get a message letting me know that in some small way, my words are making a difference. And as much as I know the road I wanna walk, it’s tough to not waver along the way at times. I think it happens to the best of us. So yeah, the words help.

Despite the slow progress this week, I still plan to drop my Back on Track Report and Awesome Reads this weekend. In the mean time, make the best of what’s been a somber day (Prayers for Colorado victims) and I’ll talk to you later.
